Sunny is a 20 month old female/German Shepherd. My #1 concern was lunging, barking aggressively, during walks when another dog/squirrel/bird was in her view. It was embarrassing, stressful and dangerous.
I chose Lou, because they have expertise with the German Shepherd breed, reactivity/aggression management. I was a bit skeptical that we would be able to accomplish this in 4 weeks, however after having an in-home evaluation with Lou/Mango Dogs, I was optimistic.
Daily walks with Sunny have been transformed from stressful events to an enjoyable activity for both of us. In addition to achieving positive results on leash walks and teaching me how to manage early signs of escalating behavior, we also accomplished so many other valuable behavior modifications.
I highly recommend Lou to any dog owner looking for a reliable, knowledgeable and compassionate trainer. You and your dog will be in excellent hands.

Oakley was unresponsive to recall and would resource guard tissues/paper towels/toys/other objects in the house he finds to be of high value, as well as counter surf. He wouldn’t drop objects with any command, attempt to nip/bite when trying to remove a so-called “high value” object away from him, always high energy, jumping on guests/couch (with said guests on it), some excessive barking, and on 200mg of Trazodone 2x/day for anxiety and destructive behaviors.
After this training, we are so much more confident in everything we do with Oakley. He recalls with the first call, drops objects he shouldn’t have, walks calmly on his leash, and working on reactivity with his kennel and treats. His resource guarding overall has improved enormously, and we are confident in everything taught to continue our trainings. Also, we have been able to decrease his Trazodone to 100mg 1x/day, with hopes to completely get rid of this anxiety medication.
I would 1000% recommend Mango’s to anyone with a challenging pup. They love their jobs and your dog(s) as if your doggo is their pup!! We are so grateful for the time Jackson spent with us educating us, reading the signs Oakley was giving us, reinforcing the tricks and mainly the recall and resource guarding in the safest way possible. This training also has given Oakley the freedom back that he couldn’t have due to all the resource guarding.

A few months ago, our two dogs decided they hated each other. They couldn’t see each other without fighting immediately, and incredibly aggressively. We were worried we would have to rehome one until we found Mango Dogs. Lou was immediately personable and put us at ease when we were feeling stressed out and worried about our situation. We can now walk them both without feeling embarrassed about their reactive behavior and leash pulling. We have effective tools to stop a fight and keep everyone safe. Our babies are still our babies, but we’ve upgraded to the 2.0 versions. Can’t recommend enough!

My dog Carter before training had so much energy with no impulse control. He would bark at people, cars and any movements outside. He pulled on the leash 24/7 and jumped on any and every guest in the house and in public at the dog stores. After training, Carter now has so much better impulse control. He barely barks out our house windows, he is able to go to place with one command. He is much better with pulling on the leash and he tends to sit now when he meets a new friend instead of jumping! I highly recommend Mango Dogs. My dog is so much better behaved and I’ve had such a positive experience with our trainer Lou.

Before training with Mango Dogs San Diego, my dog Brady had been “trained” by two other trainers. I had resigned to just not walking him as their methods were not enough for him. He is very reactive towards other dogs which made walking in public impossible. I saw a recommendation on Next Door for this trainer and I liked what I read on their website. So, I decided to give Lou a call and go for the consultation. I was impressed by the promise to be with us for the long haul, if we did the homework that would be assigned after each session. My husband and I decided to give Brady one more chance.
Today was our first session in a park, after our 4 weeks of at home training, where we walked past several dogs with not one act of reactivity. Brady barely gave the dogs a passing glance. Not only is Brady doing way better, I am feeling more confident to be able to take him on walks myself. I highly recommend Lou and Mango Dogs. You will certainly get your money’s worth. Your dog will be so much happier for the training.

Before working with Lou, our dog would resource guard toys from our other two dogs and get so excited when people came inside that they would jump on everyone. After only 3 weeks working Mango Dogs, the jumping has subsided and the resource guarding has significantly decreased. They are able to walk on the leash without pulling and recall has increased so significantly. I would HIGHLY recommend working with Lou for any of your dogs issues. You will not regret it.

We hired Mango Dogs to help us train our dog Cindy. We were specifically looking for an e-collar course as my ultimate goal was to be able to take her off leash. Also wanted help with recall and general obedience including a few issues like door dashing and fence jumping.
We work with Lou and he’s great. They have a well thought out course that takes the dog step by step through introduction to the e-collar, impulse control, then moving on to tougher tasks. Part of the reason I wanted to hire a professional was for the structure as I felt like I had plateaud in what I could teach her myself from individual command videos on YouTube.
We did the transform your dog in four weeks program as our dog isn’t aggressive or super reactive. We are about 5 weeks in (we had a weeklong vacation during it) and have seen significant improvement in Cindy’s impulse control. She walks without pulling, is checking in with us more frequently, and is no longer chasing squirrels and cats. She has calmed in greeting people and generally listens to commands more. She has become less manic in general and I feel more comfortable bringing her places without having to have a death grip on a short leash. I have been able to take her off leash entirely in specific low distraction scenarios like hikes and she has stayed near me and checked in frequently.
We still have some work to do, but Lou and the team have committed to continuing to work with us to get Cindy to exactly where we want her. We started group lessons this week and they are definitely valuable, providing needed distraction from people and other dogs to further proof Cindy’s impulse control.
Mango Dogs is definitely on the more expensive end of dog trainers that I explored and I was hesitant at first but their system and pricing structure makes sure we are aligned and they feel like partners in achieving the dog that we want, which is better than pay per session trainers that feel transactional. You work with the same trainer the entire time and they get to know you and your dog.
Overall very happy with our progress so far through 5 weeks and will update this review as we continue!
