More than two decades ago, I adopted my first dog—Phoenix, a shelter dog with a wild spirit and zero impulse control. I had no clue what I was doing. I signed up for dog training classes using the popular “purely positive” methods, hoping they’d fix everything.
But after 2 months of sessions, Phoenix was still dragging me down the road and obsessed with chasing every animal in sight. I couldn’t trust him off-leash, and nothing I learned seemed to work.
Worse than that, I felt completely hopeless.
I reached out to the trainer for help and got nothing. No follow-up, no accountability, no support. Just silence. I was on my own.
That feeling stuck with me—and it’s exactly why Mango Dogs is built the way it is. We don’t leave our clients behind. Ever. We don’t disappear once the last session is done. We stay in the fight with you until things get better and you are happy. Period.
Determined to fix my own dog’s behavior, I dove head-first into what was then the emerging world of Balanced Dog Training. I enrolled in a dog training school, traveled the world learning from the best in the industry, and committed myself to helping other dog owners avoid the struggle I went through.
That’s how Mango Dogs was born.
To this day, I’ve devoted my life to helping dog owners who feel like I once did—frustrated, isolated, and out of options. My back is still messed up from those early years with Phoenix. Weekly Group Classes
Our clients love our weekly group sessions on Saturday morning at Cordelia Park in Charlotte. These classes offer consistent practice, exposure to new dogs/people and environments, and ongoing coaching that helps everything click in the real world. You get access for an entire year!
